Onesti Krieger–The 11″ x 14″ Show

November 8, 2024 @ 8:00 am - January 4, 2025 @ 5:00 pm

- FREE

Onesti Krieger is a visual artist working in oil and acrylics. She primarily paints abstract expressionistic paintings using organic shapes in a highly gestural manner.  For Onesti, artmaking is a form of meditation, or a process of the release and gain of energy.

Painting gives her a precious opportunity to express her perceptions of a fleeting moment. In her eyes, art can be found everywhere, in everything, and she strives to communicate her perceptions of this universal beauty to the viewer through a visual language, compelling them to think and feel emotions of their own while bringing awareness to the importance of visual expression.

Onesti has served on several boards on the state and local level with the intention of bolstering the arts in North Dakota. Currently she serves as Treasurer for Williston Area Visual Artists, committee member for The 4th Street Cultural Corridor, and Region 1 Stakeholder for Creative Placemaking in North Dakota.

Onesti studied general education at Williston State College and visual arts at Moorhead State University. She is also the Proprietor of Transition Painting based in Williston, ND.

Onesti Krieger’s Artist Statement

I am an abstract artist who loves to work mainly in acrylic and oil paints. I believe that painting gives me a precious opportunity, and freedom, to express my life’s moments and perceptions uniquely. When inspired to create, my thoughts and feelings tend to be executed more abstractly, but lately I feel a shift into impressionism. A newfound love of mine is plein air painting, especially when the weather is favorable. I love the colors that appear in nature, especially in the early, as well as the late hours of the day. Bold and bright colors can be found in most of my paintings. My works are a direct reflection on my “in the moment emotions”, and sometimes are more about a feeling versus a subject.  My favorite tools to paint with are palette knives, my fingers (gloved), and good quality brushes. I often experiment with random objects and mediums that leave a variety of textures.  As I age, I try to plan out my new works through sketchbook ideas, but sometimes it is just about me having fun. Taking time to just enjoy the process, and what I learn from it. Sometimes my first moments of creating an idea happen on a canvas. If I really like what is happening, I may paint it a second time to see what changes. Often it is several things, and sometimes it changes completely.

My goal in creating art is to share an experience as I began creating art as platform for expression. For me, creating art is a form of meditation and offers an exchange of release and gain. It changes my thoughts on certain matters and gives me time to rethink or understand differently. I feel that art has this power over both the creator and viewer
