Retail Manager
We are looking for an experienced retail manager to oversee the daily operations of the Long X Visitor Center and Pioneer Gifts and Books, a retail store dedicated to enhancing the community tourism experience as well as creating and maintaining relationships with local makers and artists. A successful candidate will ensure smooth running of operations to maximize sales and minimize costs as we work to expand our retail space and offerings. Pioneer Gifts and Books is managed by the Long X Arts Foundation. Retail manager will report to the Director of the Long X Arts Foundation and work within the mission and values of the organization and stay informed on arts programming within the building, assisting in arts events and programming when appropriate.
Responsibilities
Duties can include but are not limited to:
- The ideal candidate will have experience as a retail manager and knowledge of diverse business subjects such as sales, marketing and customer relations.
- The goal is to manage the store in ways that develop the growing business, boost revenue and create a unique and engaging shopping experience for locals and tourists that reflect the unique qualities of our community.
- Prepare and control the store’s budget aiming for minimum expenditure and efficiency
- Oversight of welcoming environment in the store during open hours, this includes a clean and easily shoppable space for customers, pleasant music at a comfortable volume, easy to navigate fixtures, no safety hazards for customers or staff
- Oversee staff schedules, payroll and duties
- Research, purchase and manage appropriate inventory levels according to store needs, seasonal changes, customer request orders, trend watching, upcoming holidays, etc.
- Facilitate markdown process of merchandise
- Facilitate visual merchandising as needed regularly with new products and/or display settings. Lifts, stands, carries, moves furniture, re-organizes store layout, Physical work at times as required
- Manage and oversee social media accounts and marketing for sales and special events and in partnership with the Long X Arts Foundation
- Expand, manage and market an online sales platform to reach sales beyond the community
- Ensure the store fulfils all legal health and safety guidelines
- Maintain a friendly image in the community as a good reflection of the business working relationships with local stores and organizations
Front of House
- Retail Manager will work closely with Economic Development and Tourism who are also housed within the building. The manager and staff will serve as reception and front of house for operations in the building. This includes directing questions and guiding people to the correct offices within the building when needed.
- Retail manager will assist in registering guests for Long X Art classes when needed and will work with the Long X Arts Foundation Director to stay informed on classes, events and meeting schedules.
Requirements and skills
- Proven experience as retail manager or in other managerial position
- Knowledge of retail management best practices
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- Excellent organizing and leadership skills
- Commercial awareness
- Analytical mind and familiarity with data analysis principles
- Proficient in computer software like Excel, Word and comfortable with learning new software programs to achieve goals.
Hours
Hours of operation of the Visitor Center and Pioneer Gifts and Books are Monday – Saturday 10 am – 5 pm. This position may require some evenings for special events. Hours and operations can be adjusted with staff to meet the 40-hour work week.
Compensation
Position is full time, salaried. Compensation range between $52,000-$62,000 annually depending on experience.
Benefits: Comprehensive Paid Time Off to include sick leave, family sick leave and vacation. This paid time off is to be used by the discretion of the employee and under communication with the director.
