SUMMARY:Rosemaling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Bismarck based folk artist Molly McLean as she guides you through the techniques used create a unique rosemaling wooden plaque. \nRosemaling is a beloved Scandinavian folk art often seen across the Midwest at museums\, heritage festivals\, and at least one pot-holder or fridge magnet in your grandma’s or a friend’s great aunt’s house. \nKnown for its flowing scrollwork\, ornate curves\, and floral designs\, Rosemaling is the art of decorative painting originating in rural Norway around the 1700s. Join local artist Molly McLain in this introductory class. \nMolly will guide participants through basic strokes of beginning rosemaling. Participants will come away with practice sheets and their own small painted Rosemal piece. \nRosemaling originated in Norway and is a Scandinavian peasant style that consists especially of floral designs and inscriptions\, typically on wooden furniture or decor. \n$35 per person \nPLUS: Stop by early to enjoy our Hygge Open House event from 11 am – 4 pm upstairs at The Merc. There will be homemade Scandinavian treats and specials on our coziest items. Bring the kids from 12-1 pm to do their own free rosemaling craft with Molly! \nEvent and class sponsored by the Bush Foundation and Strengthen ND as part of our Cultural Connections programming.
